Selah for May 10, 2008 - “Election Choices & Your Spiritual Ballot”
Have you noticed how much talk is going around these days about the upcoming Presidential Election? So many words, so many promises, and so many miles traveled by all the candidates. We are asked to vote, and, by the way, all Christians should vote. By voting we are making a choice. This election like all the others in the past is very important. Who gets your vote?
This life is full of decisions and choices. We are faced with casting our vote on many things each day.
In 1 Kings 18:21, we are asked to choose between God and Baal. In Joshua 24:15, we are asked to cast our vote whether to follow God or idols. The Gospel of Luke challenges us to decide between serving God or money.
Matthew’s Gospel has several choices offered to Jesus’ followers. There are three that stand out to me. The first one is when we are asked to choose between the wide road and the narrow road, which is offered by Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount found in Matthew 7:13-14. Then Jesus asks us to cast our vote for Christ or great possessions found in Matthew 19:22-23. The last one I will highlight happened when Pilate asked the crowd who they favored. The people voted for Jesus to be crucified and for Barabbas to go free in Matthew 27:17.
So what does your spiritual ballot look like? What is your vote? Does Jesus get your vote?
I hope you will choose Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, if He is not already. Remember - not to decide is to decide. He has all the answers for our life, and He wants so much to share them with us. Simply ask Him to be your Savior, confess your sins to Him and ask Him to forgive your sins and to please give you His gift of eternal life. Share with others what Jesus has done for you. Then get connected to a Bible believing church and grow in wisdom and experience the wonderful life with Jesus Christ.
Pause and think on this teaching - Selah
